Etymology
'The new farmstead, village', v. nīwe , tūn . The affix is from the situation of the village in a dip in the Wolds, v. wald Forms with the loss of initial W - are paralleled by those for Old Weston in Huntingdonshire (PN BdHu 250).They must have been current in the 14th century since in 1386 Peace the affix was interpreted as 'old'.
