Etymology

SUMMERLEDE (2x) Summerlede 1086 DB. This is clearly an error for Osgodby, and Summerlede is a pers.n., ON  Sumarlíði , a name which seems to have originated in the Norse settlements of the Western Isles, v. SPNLY 270–71. The mistake presumably arose from the fact that a man called Summerlede held one bovate of land in Osgodby in DB (f. 371b, 68/46).
