Etymology
Six Hills is so named in 1728 (Sal) and is almost certainly identical in site with the Sixburwefeld of 1295 (WDB ), i.e. 'six hills or barrows,' v. beorg . These are six tumuli, still existing, by the side of the main road, about three-quarters of a mile south of Stevenage.
