Etymology

Cellbarns is Cella 1332Add , c . 1370 Gesta, horreum de Celle 1381 ib., Cellecroft 1385Rental , le Sellebarne 1436Cassio , Selbarne 1544 Dugd ii, Selbarnes t. ElizSP . Near by was Cellewood (1556 VCH ii, 413). It was a barn attached to the priory of Sopwell infra 95, which was a cell of St Albans Abbey.
