Etymology
Two Bridge is Tunbrygge 1274 RH (p), Tonebrigge 1276For (p).'Bridge by the Town Quarter of Writtle.' v. tun , brycg . The modern form is due in the first place to loss of n in the combina- tion nbr and then to popular etymology by association with the neighbouring One Bridge which was probably so called because only wide enough for a single person.
