Hunt's Hall olim Pooley is Polheia 1086 DB, 1152–63Colne , 1224 ClR, Polhey 1141–52Colne , 1274 RH, Polehee 1234 Cl, Polhech 1235 ib., Polleheye 1238 FF, Polleya 1238 Cl, Poleg '1244 ib., Pollyhall 1446 EA (NS) v, Poley 1475 Pat, Pooley t. Eliz ChancP, 1592Rental . Originally 'enclosure by the pool,' v. pol , (ge)hæg. Cf. Polly Shaw (PN K 40). The manor of Polhey was held by Ralf le Hunt in 1334 (M), whilst Simon le Hunte held a messuage etc. here in 1312 (FF).
