Etymology

'Tree ford', OE  trēow + ford. A ford marked by or beside a prominent tree, cf. Treyford West Sussex SU 8218, Treverde 1086, Treford 1272, 1279, 1428 PNSx 43, possibly a stream-crossing made from the trunk of a tree, and Bamford Derbyshire SK 2083, Banford 1086, Baumford 1225–1501 PNDb 39, and Lancashire SD 8613, Baunford 1282, Bamford 1322 PNLa 54, OE  bēam 'a tree'.
