Etymology

The occurrence of names identical to this one in no less than four other counties is to be noted, cf. Lark Stoke Gl 1231, Laverkestoke (now Langley) Bk 241, Laverstock W 381, Laverstoke Ha 107. Ekwall Studies2 42 considered this remarkable and added: 'The name suggests a rural idyl in the England of a thousand or more years ago.' There is mention of a water-mill at Larkestok in 1361 Pat.
