Urless Fm (ST 519039), Urless Fm 1838TA , 1885 DCMDeed, Urles 1811 OS, 1863 Hutch3, house called Urleas , house called Urlese 1684ERO . This name is to be associated with the local surnames of Cecilia de Hurdeleye , Robert de Hurdlegh '1332 SR (taxpayers in Corscombe and nearby Mapperton respectively) and of Richard Urdleye 1340 NI (a juror in Corscombe), and is furthermore to be identified with a bdy point in one of the Saxon charters for Corscombe: on ʒyrdlea middeweardne , of ʒyrdlea 1035 (12) SherC (S 975), 'wood where rods or spars are obtained', from OE  gerd, WSax  gyrd and lēah . The modern forms Urleas , Urlese , Urles (s ) represent late contractions of Urdleyes , with manorial genitive -s added to the earlier p.n./surname.
