Etymology

'Circular ditch,' v. hwyrfel , dic . The place is situated in a pan or circular hollow (J.J.A.), but the exact sense of dic is uncertain. Cf. on ða hwyrfeldic (BCS 670) and to hwerfeldice (KCD 705).
