Etymology

'The broad or spreading ash,' v. brad , æsc , with some confusion with ac . Cf. Whitnage supra 553. The second n is intrusive and is never heard in pronunciation. Cf. Brandish Wood (Herts), Brad (e )nache t. Hy 3 AD iii(p), 1461 St Pauls , from brad and ac .
