Etymology

King's Haigh (6″), Kinges Hay Hy 8DuLa , Kynges Hey Eliz ib, Kyngeshagh 1577FF , Kings Haigh 1625Rental , Kingeshage 1636ShefJC , Kingshaigh 1673 ib. Probably 'king's enclosure', with confusion of the second element between (ge)hæg and haga 1 , though the modern form is clearly from the latter. Hope was a royal manor.v. cyning .
