Etymology
Perhaps 'Pad(d)a's open land', v. feld and for the OE pers.n. Pad (d )a cf. Padbury (Brk), Padiham (PN La 79–80) and Padley infra 158. Alternatively the first el. may well be OE padde 'toad'.
