Etymology
Ekwall (DEPN) can hardly be correct in taking the first element as OE pers.n. *Buduc . It is more likely to be an unrecorded OE pers.n. *Bucg , cf. Bucga and Bucge (Redin 74, 115). Hence 'Bucg's enclosure', v. worð . The change from Bugsworth to Buxworth was a deliberate one, taking place about 1930. Cf. Buckden (PN BedHu 252–3).
