Historical Forms

  • Siterandelog (sic) Hy3 For

Etymology

Shittern Clough (6″), Siterandelog (sic)Hy 3For , S (c )hiteryngclogh , S (c )hiterindecloht 1285 ib. The first element is clearly a verbal (pres.part.) formation in -ande connected with scitere 'stream used as an open sewer'; hence the name may mean something like 'clough with a stream used as an open sewer', v. clōh .
