Etymology

Algarthorpe (lost), Algar (e )thorp (e ), Algerthorp (e )1303 FF, Ed 1AddCh (p), Ed 1HarlCh (p), 1330Ass (p)et passim toAlgathorpe 1601FF , Vlgerthorppe 1361HardCh . Probably 'Alger's outlying farm', v. þorp . The first element is the ODan  pers.n. Alger rather than OE  Ælfgār (cf. Feilitzen 144–6). The form Vlger - may well have been influenced by those of Oakerthorpe infra 335.
