Etymology

The ford and later the bridge have been named from Mythom which itself means 'at the meetings of the streams', v. (ge)mȳðe (dat.pl. (ge)mȳðum). Just below the modern bridge the R. Noe and Overdale Brook join the R. Derwent. v. ford , brycg .
