Etymology

Blingsby Gate, Blanghesbi 1086 DB, Blingsbie 1576 DbA xx, 1610Senior , Blingesby 1617Hard . 'Blæingr's farm', v. ; cf. Blainscough and Bleansley (PN La 129, 222) for this ON  pers.n. Mr F. Williamson draws attention to the fact that the surname Blanksby survives in the neighbourhood (1922 Kelly). For Gate cf. All the lord 's tenants in Blingsbie to mend the way at the Gate 1576 DbA xx. It was one of the gates of Hardwick Park. v. geat .
