Eddlestow, Ethelstowe c. 1250, Ed 1Beau , Athelstow Ed 1 ib, Edenstow (sic)1519 DbA xix, Edellstall 1597 DbA xxiii. 'Splendid place', v. æðele (n), stōw or possibly 'Æðel's place'. This pers.n. would be a shortened form of one of the numerous OE  pers.ns. in Æðel -.
