Etymology

'Willow nook', or 'corner where willows grow', v. salh , halh , cf. Great Saughall supra , Little Saughall, Saughall Massie 205, 321infra . The halh may have been the valley running down to the old shore of Dee at 109–358697, cf. The Beeches infra . The form Salhale DB f.265 may belong to Saughall Massie. The identification is uncertain; the case is argued in Tait 147 n.125a, LCHS NS ii 41, viiviii 294 for Great Saughall, and Tait iii n.78, LCHS NS xv 21–25 for Saughall Massie.
