Etymology

Tranmere Ferry (lost, 109–327880), Tranmere Ferry 1843TAMap , Tranmere Ferry House 1831 Bry, passagium et batillagium de Tranemoll 1357ChFor , 'passage of Tranmoll alias Tranmor '1587 AD, 'a passage of water in Tranmore '1739LRMB 264. Cf. Rock Ferry 246supra . In Sheaf3 4 (9874) it is stated that Rock Ferry was called Tranmere Ferry until the Tranmere Slip on the south side of Tranmere Pool was built in the eighteenth century and the ferry at this slip became Tranmere Ferry , the old one becoming Rock Ferry .
