Etymology

The ancient parish of Barthomley comprised the township of Balterley (110–7650) in St, and in Ch the townships 1. Alsager (now a c.p. including parts of Linley and Talke in St), 2. Barthomley (now a c.p. including part of Radway Green and Engleseabrook from Haslington and Weston townships 7, 75 infra), 3. Crewe (part now included in Monks Coppenhall 26infra , the rest a c.p. in Nantwich Rural District), 4. Haslington. A small part of Hassall 21infra is reported to have belonged to this parish, cf. Orm2 iii299.
