Possibly OE Cod (d )an-mere , 'Cod(d)a's mere.' A name Cod (d )a may be inferred from Codford (W) (cf. VCS 595 Codanford ) and Cotheridge (Wo) (cf. BCS 1106 Coddan hrycg ).
