Etymology

. It is probable that this is a modern name . Kelly 's Directory for 1934 notes repairs to the Castle in 1849 by Viscount Alford . The buildings are not named on 1833 OS or on 1839TAMap . The occurrence of Alford as a surname in 1291Ass ( Thom ' de Alford , mentioned in connection with property at Myddlewood ) is probably a coincidence .
