, 1857OS , Underlade (Stone )1770 Bthm , described as ' a large tract of stonycommon ' and ' the two ridges are called Scouts or Loads ' ( ib 98 ) , the allusion being to the rocky scar above the wood ( v. skúti ' projectingrock ' ) ; the el . -laid ( or Load ) would seem to be from OE  (ge)lād ' track ' in its e. ModE sense of ' lode, vein ' ; v. under and for the p.n. type cf. Underley (i, 44supra ) .
