( 6 ″ ) . In 1609 (Rental ) we have reference to le Doune voc ' Croucham , i.e. perhaps the ' hammof the cross . ' Half a mile away , in Aldingbourne parish , we have Simon atte Cruche in 1327 (SR) . hamm here and in Wide Ham infra must be used in the sense of ' enclosure ' as there is no stream near .
