Etymology

This name evidently records a burial mound since Ru p. ns . with beorg appear invariably to refer to prehistoric barrows . However , there is now no indication of a tumulus in the vicinity ; the name on the O.S . 6 ″ map is sited on the lower eastward slope of the Ayston promontory . The name appears to have acquired its later plural form by analogy with The Barrows in Seaton on the southern boundary of the parish . The surviving forms suggest that this development took place in the 17th century . Wing and Preston parishes adjoin Bisbrooke to the north and north - west .
