Historical Forms

  • Osmound Thorpe 1828 Bry

Etymology

is Osmound Thorpe 1828 Bry , for which no early spellings have been noted , and it may well be a late example of the use of þorp , common in L , in the sense of an outlying farm . The first el . appears to be the surn . Osmond , Osmund , from ME  Osmund ( OE  Ōsmund , Norman Osmund , etc . ) However , it is just possible that it is to be identified with Osberthorp ( e ) in f. ns . ( b ) infra .
