Etymology

, Braimer Beck 1772ib , a Publick Drain called Braimer Drain , a Publick Drain called Bramer Drain 1774EnclA , Bramer Drain 1787Deeds , a Public Drain called Bramer Drain 1802ib , a certain Drain or Beck called Barmer Drain (sic)1824MiscDon 140 , Brimer Drain 1824,1830 Gre , cf. Bramer Close 1724, 1726Td 'E ; it is perhaps referred to as the beck (e )1612, 1638, 1662Terrier , the Beck 1634Terrier and as Rasen Beck 1806, 1813, 1819, 1826Deeds , Middle Raisin Beck 1774EnclA . The forms are late , so that it is impossible to suggest a certain etymology . It would appear that Brimmer is originally a p.n. and if the - aim - and - ame - spellings represent the earliest form , this might be a compound of breiðr ' broad ' and (ge)mǣre ' aboundary, land on a boundary ' , but it is difficult to reconcile this with the topography , since it does not seem to form a known or suspected boundary .
