( lost ) , 1793Dixon , 1828 Bry , Blackmills 1706Terrier , East Black Mills , North Black Mills c.1832Yarb and is probablyto be identified with Blakemildes a1167 (later hand) NCot ,blackmales 1611Terrier , black meales 1625Terrier , blackmeals 1634Terrier , Blackmeales 1637Terrier , blackmels 1674Terrier , Black-mells 1690, 1697Terrier , Blackmells 1724Terrier , Blackmauls 1779Yarb , ' the black, dark-coloured soil, earth ' , v. blæc , mylde , found as a f.n. in PN Nt 288, PN Nth 268, PN Wa331 and PN YE 327 . There may have been later confusion with melr ' a sand-hill ' . Bry shows it to have been the name of the open space between New Close Wood and Swallow Wold Wood .
