Etymology

. Part of the inscription on the obelisk states “ This monument was raised by his many friends , as a token of their regard , and to mark the spot where William Smith , huntsman to the Earl of Yarborough , fell on the 11 th of April 1845 ” . The site was given by a friend “ on the 6 th Day of April 1861 ” .
