Etymology

Named from Westbury on Severn (201infra ). The meeting place may have been at Broadoak (202infra ) where the manorial court was held as late as 1760 (Guise M. 11); it is halfway between Westbury and Newnham on the Roman road alongside the Severn; cf. also the f.n. Malsdon (207infra ).
