Etymology

The hundred takes its alternative name from Lower Slaughter (206infra ), since the latter was the chief manor, and the hundred was already annexed to it in DB (fol. 163a, Taylor 149); in 1247 the king granted the manor of Slaughter with the hundred of Salmonsbury to the abbey of Fécamp (1246 Cl, 1247 Ch).
