Historical Forms

  • Marsters 1824 M

Etymology

, 1847TA , Marsters 1824M , possibly to be connected with Mersty ( infra ) as it is only a furlong from the county boundary , but Mersty must be between Bartlett's Green (supra ) and Drybrook (217supra ) on the east side of the parish ; there is a Merstowe ( 233 supra ) ; this Marstow is probably of different origin , possibly ' boundary place ' , v. (ge)mǣre , stōw , but the material is not early enough .
