Etymology

, 1774 Hutch1 , a stretch of the town wall , ' so called from the execution there of Mr . Baxter , Mr . Holman , and several others , who fell a sacrifice to their attachment to the Duke of Monmouth , in the year 1684 ; they were tried and condemned at Dorchester assizes , and ordered to be executed at Wareham by the infamous Judge Jefferies' (Hutch3 194) , but cf. DoNHAS 6668 .
