Etymology

, Lillypute 1783Marten ,Lilliput 1811 OS , the name of the imaginary country peopled by pygmies in Swift 's Gulliver 's Travels ( 1726 ) , cf. Flag Fmsupra . The name is probably to be associated with Isaac Gulliver ( of West Moors ) ( 1745 – 1822 ) who may have been the house 's first occupant , the addiction to Swift 's story being further suggested by the baptismal name of Lemuel Gulliver of East Orchard ( 1823Marten ) who was probably of the same family ( Lemuel is the name of Swift 's hero ) ( M.H. ) , v. Gulliver 's Fm in W Parley par . infra .
