Etymology

, a high part of the cliffs , perhaps something like ' Cuda'shill ' , from the OE  pers.n. Cuda and hyll , although Arkell ( 1941 ) 36 points out that this is where the alum works was situated ( cf. prec. ) and suggests the Co mining term caudle ' a thick muddy fluid ' , cf. Legg 57 . D Plant . , so called from its shape .
