is a place called the Old Church 1606 PR . Cf. New Church 1674 ib.(Crosth) , New Kirk 1789 Clarke , Sparkett Newchurch 1825 PR(Barton) . The house is on the site of the church which formerly stood here . “ The whole parish is commonly called ' Newkirk parish , ' probably from a chapel consecrated in 1558 ” ( NB ii , 370 ) .
