Etymology

( 6 ″ ) . Cf. Le Coomes , boscus voc . le Cames 1568LRMB , Le Com (b )es 1605Survey , the Comes , the Cowmes , the Cowems 1609LRMB . The forms are all late , but they point clearly enough to the plural of OE  camb , ' comb, ridge, crest , ' ME (NCy) kame . Cf. BlackComb infra 391 . Clint is apparently Dan klint , ' rock . ' The name is descriptive of the rocky ridge above the Eden at this point .
