[ baskədaik ] is Bascordycke , Biarskardyke , Byarskardyke 1568LRMB ,baskodike 1609 ib., Baskoe Dyke 1622 Moulton, Baskeydike 1642Boothby , Baskett dike 1650ParlSurv , Baskerdyke 1749Boothby . v. dīc . Forms are late , but may go back , as Prof . Ekwall conjectures to ON  býiarskurð ' village ditch , ' to which dyke was added when the meaning of the original compound was forgotten .
