Pepperstreet Moss

Other OS name in the Parish of Wybunbury

Etymology

( 110–702465 ) , 1842 OS , v. mos , cf. Pepper St.(Chester) 326 infra . If this p.n. alludes to an ancient road , it would support one of Ekwall 's explanations of Hunsterson , v. supra . There was probably an old line of road hereabouts , on the route from Woore Sa , to Nantwich , cf. 148 ( route XXVII ) , Bruneshurst 53supra , Donnington 61supra , ( Pepperstreet Moss is on a line between BroadLane 72infra and Bruneshurst ) . It would be lost or diverted at some time by inclusion in Doddington Park , cf. Old Fields Lodge supra . There may have been a ' street ' at Doddington , for the surname le Streteward 1312 Plea (DKR xxxvii100) appears there , v. strǣt , strete-ward .
