Etymology

[ steiʒiz ] , Stacio 's Plat 1831 Bry , cf. Stacious Platt Field ( 1840 ) , 302 infra , and Staysoes Yard 1838TA , v. plat 1 , geard . The platt is a bridge over Wettenhall Brook at 109 – 580616 . The first el . is hard to establish . It might be from the pers. n. Eustace , cf. Reaney s. nn . Stacey , Stace ( ME and MedLat Staci (us ) ) , but a reduced form of sceaga ' a wood ' , is possible . The location might suit a p.n. Stayshaw ' wood at a pond ' , from OE  stæg and sceaga .
