Etymology

, discussed Sheaf 1 3 pp. 27 , 65 , 69 , 73 . The name is taken from a man hired by a local landlord to impersonate a hermit in an artificial cave here . The ' hermit ' is also popularly associated with Harthill Coombs 92infra , and a local name Allenscome 's Cave was invented , which associated the Coombs with Mad Allen's Hole (Sheaf, loc. cit. , 65, 69) .
