If the form Ark is analogous with that in AnglezarkLa 48 , from erg ' a shieling ' , then this p.n. means ' gloomy shieling ' , and le Erw ..brok 1347ChFor might be identified with this part of Ashton Brook , v. erg , deorc , wudu , brōc . But Ark may simply be arke ' a box, a receptacle; a trap ' , cf. Ele arke 17supra .
