Etymology

( 109–508553 ) , Badnook 1842 OS , cf. Bodnick Wood 92supra . The house is at the head , and the wood on the shoulder , of a steep - sided valley in the side of Burwardsley Hill . The modern form looks like a ' bad nook ' , v. badde , nōk , but the original p.n. may be Welsh ( or pseudo - Welsh ) ' house at a hill ' , from bod and cnwc .
