Etymology

, the Bagmere 1621 Orm2, Bagmer (e ), Bagmer (e ) Mear 1656 ib , formerly an extensive lake , drained and brought into cultivation in the eighteenth century ( Orm2 iii86 ) . The name may be ' bag lake ' either from its original shape or from its acting as a trap for water , v. bagga , mere 1 . However , ' bog pool ' , v. bog , mere 1 , is more likely , cf. Orm2 iii86 .
