( 109–389730 to 370713 ) , Hook Pit Lane 1831 Bry , cf. Coalpit Lane Croft 1802 Sheaf , Hill Fm 178infra ( Coal Pit House 1831 Bry ) , and Coal Pit Lane 204infra . It is apparently named from a coal - pit , v. col 1 , pytt , lane . The pit was ' hook pit ' , at a hook of land in a corner of the parish , v. hōc . It is not apparent whether this was a charcoal or a mining industry .
