, Cane Green 1806EnclA . These places lie beside Letcombe Brook and it is tempting to suggest that Cane is a pre - English name of the brook , which was later known as Waneting ( Pt 1 , 17 – 18 ) . The suggestion given in DEPN for the first el . of Candover Ha implies a British r.n. *Can os ' beautiful ' ( Middle Welsh  cein ) , which Professor Jackson informs us is plausible .
