Etymology

This may be from OE  cyne-tun , 'royal farm' or 'manor,' with later alteration under the influence of the common word 'king,' cf. OE  cynedom now represented by kingdom , or the name may actually have been cyningtun in OE, though a compound of this type does not seem very probable. For similar hesitation elsewhere cf. Kineton (Wa), Cyngtun in BCS 1234. Note also Kinton (Sa), earlier Kinton and Kyngton (PN Sa 134) and Kinton (He), DBChingtune .
