Etymology
'Chafer-ridge,' the first element being OE ceafor , 'chafer , beetle.' For such a name cf. ceaforleah (BCS 622), v. hrycg .The history of Charingworth (Gl), DBChevringavrde points however to the possibility of a pers. name of the same form.
